ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit)

Concept

An Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) is a custom-designed integrated circuit optimized for a particular application rather than general-purpose use. ASIC designs grow increasingly complex, motivating advanced verification methodologies such as constrained random test benches. ASICs also appear as widely deployed edge hardware accelerators for AI workloads, notably in autonomous-vehicle object detection where they complement GPUs.

ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit)

An Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) is an integrated circuit whose functionality is custom-designed for a particular application or use case, in contrast with general-purpose programmable processors. Because the silicon is tailored to a fixed function, an ASIC can offer higher performance, lower power, and smaller area than a general-purpose processor running the same workload, at the cost of reduced flexibility and higher non-recurring engineering effort.
