BOOM Core
BOOM Core is an open-source RISC-V processor core described in recent research as a complex out-of-order design.[1]
Research use
BOOM has been used as an evaluation target in security-oriented processor fuzzing and leakage-contract analysis. A 2025 study on coverage-guided pre-silicon fuzzing evaluated BOOM together with the in-order Rocket Core, and reported that increased microarchitectural coverage led to faster discovery of security vulnerabilities in BOOM.[1]
ProcessorFuzz also evaluated BOOM alongside Rocket and BlackParrot as part of experiments on real-world open-source processors.[2]
