Security evaluation by GoldenFuzz
GoldenFuzz, a two-stage hardware fuzzing framework presented at the Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium 2026, evaluated BA51-H as a commercial hardware target arxiv:2512.21524. During this evaluation, GoldenFuzz identified two previously unknown vulnerabilities in the BA51-H core extension, demonstrating that the framework is capable of finding novel security issues in commercial, non-academic processor designs in addition to open RISC-V processors such as RocketChip, BOOM, and CVA6 research-information.bris.ac.uk.
The GoldenFuzz framework works by first fuzzing a fast, ISA-compliant Golden Reference Model (GRM) acting as a "digital twin" of the device under test, refining test cases rapidly before applying them to the actual hardware target.
